Tibet Tours with Your Budget

Tours Brief info:

This tour is great for first time visitors and is also very popular for Chinese tourists. This tour will take you to the eastern part of Tibet to discover the diversity of Tibetan landscape. You will also experience the Switzerland-like mountain ranges of Tibet. You will see a beautiful little lake called Basumtso. The surrounding hills are thick with virgin forests of pine, birch, azalea, maple and other varieties of trees.

Recommended Groups: Suitable for most groups including: Families with kids, seniors, youths, and students. Especially recommended for photographers. For those who are worried about high altitude, Nyingchi is a great place to go as it is lower than many other parts of Tibet. Though not physically demanding, a reasonable level of fitness is needed.

Condition: Lhasa to Nyingchi is about a 5-6 hour drive with some of the best road conditions in Tibet. Nyingchi is a hidden gem. The altitude is lower (at 2,900m) so most people will feel more comfortable there. Tall ancient trees are everywhere. There are many exotic animals and plants that you will be able to see. The area has a unique local climate: Tourists will not suffer from high altitude sickness or feel excessive dryness or cold. They will feel like they're in a warm gulf area.

Best time to go: Available all year round. Basumtso Lake is especially beautiful in the spring. April is the best time to visit Nyingchi area

Day 1 Lhasa Arrival

Welcome to the roof of the world! You will be pick up at the airport or train station, then be escorted to your hotel in Lhasa city at the comfort of your own private vehicle. En route, enjoy the breathtaking view along the Yarlong Tsangpo River. Tibetan features can be seen along the way, including Big Buddha engravings on the hill near the road, colorful prayer flags and friendly Tibetan people.

After arrival at your hotel, the rest of the day is free for you to explore the local area and acclimatize yourself to this high altitude city at the top of the world.

Tips of today: 1. Go for some walking to acclimate the high altitude but avoid strenuous activity after arrival; 2. You’d better not have bath; 3. Drink more water, and have some fruit; 4. Have a good rest.

Explore the beautiful gardens and experience one of the most holy sites in Tibetan Buddhism while soaking up the rich history. Next, come to Drepung Monastery, which was once the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery housing 10,000 monks in its heyday. Learn about the lives of Tibetan monks.

Your tour ends at Sera Monastery, where you will get the chance to experience “Buddhism Scriptures Debating”. These debates are unique to Sera and are quite famous. Enjoy the debates!

Tips of today: 1. Obey Buddhist manners and talk appropriately. 2. Feel free to ask tour guide questions about Buddhism or else; 3. Don't forget take your sun glasses and suncream.

Day 3 Wondering Lhasa

The overwhelming Potala Palace is your first stop. As the symbol of Tibet, it was built in 641 AD and was the winter palace of Dalai Lama who is Tibet’s pope. Impressive Tibetan architecture, huge golden Buddha statues, red-robed lamas and devoted pilgrims all make it a must-visit.

In the afternoon, you’ll visit the Jokhang Temple, the spiritual center of Tibet. Every day, pilgrims from every corner of Tibet trek here from long distances to worship. Finally, walk the special circular pilgrimage route as local followers always do at Barkhor Street.

Tips of today: 1. Don't climb the Potala in a rush, which may cause hard breath; 2 Please don't disturb pilgrims. You can take pictures from a distance. 3. Don't fear to bargain and compare price if you do shopping in Barkor Street; 3. If you still have energy in the evening, you can go to the square on your own in front of the Potala Palace around 8:30pm to enjoy the 2-hours music fountain for free; 4. On this day, you will be mainly outside, please bring plenty of water, a hat, sun cream, and sun glasses.

Day 4 Lhasa - Ganden Monastery - Bayi Town

On route, you will pay a visit to Ganden Monastery which is the first Gelugpa monastery, and one of the three "great" Gelugpa monasteries in Tibet (the other two being Sera and Drepung monasteries). Founded in 1409, Ganden Monastery was traditionally considered to be the seat of Geluk administrative and political power.

Upon arrival at Bayi Town, visit a huge cypress tree over a thousand years old. Take a break and take a stroll in the surprisingly modern town.

Thank you so much for your patience and flexibility in helping me to plan our trip to Hunan Province. Galen really enjoyed the Flying Tigers Memorial and Chinese people's anti-Japanese War memorial. We had delicious meals, the accommodations were good and Mars was a very knowledgeable tour guide. We enjoyed seeing the small villages and meeting the very friendly and hard working Dong minority people. Mr. He, our driver was competent and kept us safe on some very narrow and congested roads. I was happy that Mars was able to find the Catholic Church in Yuanling and was very resourceful in finding the cemetery and the Memorial monument for my Great Aunt, Sister Catherine Gabriel.

It was a very special moment for me. I was pleased to know that the Chinese people show such great respect for my ancestors as well as their own. I felt really good to know that she is buried in such a beautiful location among the people who she loved and took care of. My family is very happy to know that she rests in peace in Yuanling. Thank you again for making this possible.

Tsering requested I tell you about my experience with planning our coming trip.We chose China Highlights in part due to your 'no required shopping' policy and the wide range of itineraries you offer. As we developed our preferred experiences, Tsering was able to offer visits and events to complement and extend our pleasure. When we decided to think about our plans she was happy to allow us the time we requested.

I just wanted to say how truly satisfied I am working with Tsering. I believe she is a hard worker who goes above and beyond her job responsibilities - she gives excellent suggestions and recommendations for my upcoming trip to China with my elderly parents, my wife, and my baby. Her answers to my questions are quick and very honest. Her service is outstanding - she treats me as if I am a member of her family. I am definitely looking forward to my trip to China with China Highlights! I am highly recommending China Highlights to all of my friends, especially because of the wonderful work by Tsering!
